Diamond
film is the best protective coating for
cutting tool because of its highest hardness.
(Table 1) The excellent thermal conductivity
(Table 2) of diamond can be applied to the
heat sinks. Also, diamond films can be used
as optical windows because of its high transmittance
from X-ray to IR.(Fig. 1)
Since
the mass production of diamond coating is
yet to be solved, the price is still very
high, which hinders wider application of
diamond coatings. However, the new diamond
coating technique of CS&T, deposition
of diamond through graphite decomposition,
can deposit much wider area with higher
deposition rate, which enables considerable
cost reduction from previous diamond coatings
by conventional CVD techniques
